Start with the care label inside your sweatshirt. “100% cotton” describes the fiber, but the garment’s construction, finish and details also matter when deciding how to wash and dry it.

KozyUp’s DreamKnit cotton hoodie and Essential cotton pocket crewneck list machine washing in cold water on their product pages. Follow the sewn-in label for the complete instructions, including drying and any restrictions.

1. Check the fit before you wash

Try a new sweatshirt on before wearing it out or washing it, keeping its tags attached while you decide. Confirm that you like the sleeve length, body length and room through the chest. Washing is not a reliable way to turn the wrong size into the right one.

If the fit is not what you expected, check the current return conditions or contact KozyUp before laundering it. Returns require the item to remain unworn and unwashed.

2. Read all of the care instructions

Check the wash temperature, drying method and any instructions about bleach or ironing. Do not copy the routine from another sweatshirt just because it is also cotton. If a symbol or instruction is unclear, ask the brand to confirm before choosing a setting.

3. Empty the pockets and prepare the load

Check for tissues, receipts, keys and other items in the front pocket. Sort the sweatshirt with compatible laundry according to its care instructions. Give it enough room in the machine and use the detergent quantity recommended for your load.

4. Use the recommended wash setting

For the KozyUp styles linked above, the product pages specify cold machine washing. Check your own garment’s label as well. A hotter setting is not a shortcut to a better fit, and “machine washable” does not mean every cycle is suitable.

5. Follow the drying instruction

Read the drying direction separately from the washing direction. If your label allows tumble drying on low, use that setting rather than high heat. If it specifies another method, follow that instead. Do not assume a sweatshirt can be tumble dried simply because it can go in the washing machine.

Let the garment dry fully before folding and putting it away. Check the pocket and hood, where applicable, rather than judging only the outer body fabric.

Will a cotton sweatshirt shrink?

There is no single shrinkage percentage that applies to every cotton sweatshirt. Yarn, fabric construction, finishing and laundering all affect the result. CottonWorks explains these factors in its guidance on shrinkage. Follow the garment’s instructions rather than relying on a “cotton never shrinks” promise.

Choosing your next cotton layer

Compare the neckline, fit and details in KozyUp’s 100% cotton sweatshirt collection. The DreamKnit hoodie adds a hood; the Essential pocket crewneck combines a round neckline with a built-in front pocket. Choose the style and measurements you want from the start, then keep its care label as your guide.
